This was as one-sided as it sounds as Causeway were the victims of a second half massacre . I decided to visit Bromsgrove’s Victoria Ground , for the umpteenth time this season (starting to get a bit sick of it now ) as i have now watched 4 different sides play here this season , but as you know i mainly go to watch the Blues youth side.Tonight the divisions best side by far Birmingham City took on basement boys Causeway and Withymoor who play at Lye’s ground where i visited 2 days ago.
It was a very cold night again and i got there to see that through Bromsgrove’s greed they have increased the price. When i started coming here to watch Blues it was free , then Bromsgrove made it £2 and tonight it was suddenly £3. It was a bleak night and as i walked in it looked very bare inside ,not many had braved the cold. Blues were in .. yes you guessed it the all blue kit and causeway in Red. The lighting at Bromsgrove always plays havoc with my phone camera and my digital so apologies if the pics are not as you wish.
The game started well and Blues were ahead within 10 mins. Causeway were caught out time and time again the ball being slipped through the offside trap and finished by the much faster strikers. There were calls of offside for the 2nd and 3rd goals for Birmingham and i think they have a case . The fourth was a defensive error that was smacked home into the bottom corner.
Causeway’s first shot, they scored from .A great lob like shot had the keeper beaten as it sailed in top corner from around 25 yards. That was as good as it got for Causeway who then conceded a 5th to go in at half time 5-1 down. In the second half for a 10 minute spell the game plato’d with both sides cancelling each other out. Before running riot with one particularly good goal coming off the post , as each goal went in Causeway stopped working and they gave in to the inevitability of a defeat. Birmingham youth are good but without ever really having to be good if you understand there not a great side but compared to others in this league they are miles apart. There was a lot of mistakes from the Blues tonight a few shot flying towards the corner flags etc, but Causeway seem a side low on confidence and it showed.
Admission was £3, attendance I counted 44 but i think it might have been slightly higher perhaps 50 , No programme. Not sure if there will be any more games this week , i may try do Boldmere youth on Thursday but no guarantees.
