Firstly i apologise for the lateness of my update , I didn’t get back to Birmingham till Tuesday and have only just got back to my laptop and upload lead. So i shall begin.
I included this game into my three-day break away to Llandudno , the Las Vegas of North Wales and cut this game fine not arriving at my hotel until 1.50 and kick off at 2.30.I drove through an old looking industrial estate and eventually found Maesdu Park. This happened to be my first taste of Welsh football and it didn’t disappoint.
I paid the £5 admission and began taking photographs before eventually ending up on the same side by the dug outs. Llandudno were one from bottom and it was a big ask taking on League leaders Rhyl. Llandudno were in their black and white strip and Rhyl in yellow. I must say i was impressed with the ground two small stands facing opposite each other and a covered seating area behind the goal.
The early period was mainly a midfield battle but the game sparked into life on 24 minutes , when from a corner Arrom Pritchard nodded home. I stood with the Rhyl fans for a time and as half time came , there were shouts of “Sort it out Greg” and “Tell them off Greg”. I then moved to the other side and took in the grandeur of the mountains.
The second half began , and a rejuvenated Rhyl side sprung out of the traps , Marc Evans finishing from a corner. Paul Roberts then brought down Forbes in the box and was shown the red card. McManus stepped up and finished the penalty. Then a rather comical goal when Arron Pritchard went from hero to zero heading backwards instead of out to a very grateful Evans who punished them for their error.
Not long after it was 4-1 when Marc Evans claimed his hat trick by chipping Metcalf. Ten man Llandudno were finally buried in the 78th minute when Hughes finished the ball from a cross. All in all a very enjoyable trip that i was glad to squeeze in despite the grumblings from my misses.
