The car has developed a problem in the first week of having it , the water pump has gone so not wanting to risk a further trip until its repaired, I visited Boldmere Sports and Social on their opening day in the Midland League Division 3, after transferring from the Birmingham AFA. Their opponents were Perrywood , from Worcester the place I lived for 4 years and am still very fond of. The Perrywood players arrived the same time as me at around 2.35pm . I was joined by Eggyhopper for this game.
As I arrived, the pitch was deserted except for Boldmere warming up on the far side.
Perrywood warmed up for just five minutes before being called back into the dressing room. The game kicked off late at 3.07pm, with Boldmere in the red and black and Perrywood in their usual blue strip.

In the opening minutes, Boldmere controlled the game, trying to prove they may be new but they are no pushovers, especially with runs from the left channel but found Perrywood a tough nut to crack. Boldmere did however take the lead on 8 minutes from a free kick on the edge of the area. Taking a short run up and sending a low strike ,that beat the wall , and the unsighted keeper.
Perrywood equalized on 23 minutes, after working the ball on the left wing , Boldmere’s defence left a player unmarked and from a hopeful cross, the player finished.
On 32 minutes, Perrywood took a deserved lead from a low stooping header beat Boldmere’s keeper.

Half Time – Boldmere S&S…1 Perrywood…2

The second half was a flatter affair, the warm sunshine was disappearing and being replaced by dirty black clouds. The attendance that had swelled to about 20, dropped around 13 after the break. There were only three real chances in the second half. Perrywood were unlucky not to increase their lead , Boldmere tried to clear their lines but the clearance ricocheted off a Perrywood players back and trundled towards the line, but Boldmere got back to hack it off the line.
Boldmere had two chances ,one was a sitter of a header, that was headed downwards and wide, the other they brought a great one handed save out of Perrywoods keeper.
All in all this was a decent start to the campaign, but it was a deserved Perrywood win. Hopefully when the car is fixed I can kick on properly and get some more games under my belt.
