Olympic were cruelly denied their first win of a dismal season as they conceded late on. I stayed close today as a fight off this cold that is still attacking my system so took a trip to the Aston Uni pitches in Great Barr to see this West Midland Regional Division 2 clash , that saw mid table Sikh Hunters take on Worcester. Worcester have been having a torrid time, collecting just a single point in 14 games . As I arrived, the weather was cold , but with bright winter sunshine.
This game kicked off at 2pm, with Sikh in the white and black and Worcester in the blue kit. Last time I came here a couple of months ago, there was a decent group of spectators. Obviously with the colder weather, it is just the die hard supporters that turned out , and so it was today, just 2 , me and a guy walking round with a notepad, a couple more were watching from the bar I think but I won’t count them… its pitch side or nothing.
AFC took a shock lead in around the 14th minute, running into the box, shaking off the keeper and dispatching the ball beyond the keeper in a one on , Hunter’s were clearly favourites for this game, and spent the game chasing the equalizer but found Olympic a tough nut to crack. Olympics keeper produced heroics in the goal to keep Sikh Hunters at bay with some fine stops.
Olympic had a chance to double their lead, and how the player missed only he will ever know after racing clear, the player only lad to get beyond one more player, a deflection sent the ball up into the air the player raced to the goal line for a tap in and somehow sent the ball wide of the post . Hunters had a low drive saved before the late drama. After holding the lead for 70 minutes, Olympic were made to pay .A ball from outside the box was met by a stooping unmarked header that sent the ball into the bottom corner.
