Game 30 – Pershore Town 3 Littleton 1 27/12/2014

Firstly I hope you all had a happy Christmas, I didn’t do a game on Boxing Day due to family commitments, so waited till today to see some action.I travelled the 39 miles, to see this Midland League One clash between these Worcestershire neighbours. Pershore have being struggling in the lower reaches this season, where as Littleton have being doing reasonably well in 8th place, so this came as a bit of a shock. I attended this game with my dad, who joins me for about one game a year as he is a busy man, so it was nice to spend time with him.

This fixture had a earlier kick off time of 11.30, and we paid out £4 admission.I was annoyed as we took our standing position on the far side , to see they had left a gate in the flimsy fence wide open and people were walking in for free from the parkland behind. I noticed a couple of hoppers in attendance, West Midland Traveller was behind the goal snapping pictures, I also met a guy called Cherry Hopper who had come up from Bournemouth to watch this game … commitment. The King George Stadium is a basic set up , with a small covered stand with wood planks and a club house.

The game itself was poor in truth, very scrappy with plenty of whinging and silly challenges from both sides. Littleton in the red strip were far better in the opening stages and promised much, but could not get past Yarnold in the Pershore goal, Pershore took the a surprise lead on 38 minutes , through a low drive by Joe Walsh from a round 12 yards. On the stroke of half time ,a  bizarre second was scored through Joe Robinson, his free kick from off the wing into the box eluded everyone, I can only think they thought it was going wide but instead plopped into the far side of the net for a embarrassing keeper error.

The stand

In the second half, the game continued to be scrappy, a dodgy challenge by a Pershore player on the Littleton keeper lead to the keeper losing his head and venting his anger on the player and kicking the post with lots of swearing to be earned a yellow card. Pershore scored a third, the keeper diving at Joe Walsh’s feet, but Walsh lifted it into the top corner. Littleton pulled one back from the spot, Will Gayton with a low shot.
