Sheldon moved up to fifth in the West Midland Christian Division one , after a routine win against bottom side St Thomas. I had intended to do a double today with this game been on my radar all week as part one , and so I visited a new ground in Streetley Community centre, a rather unremarkable venue , with the large centre with parkland behind it. As I arrived with my brother who had come out for a rare game, Judo was taking place in the hall. We found the sides warming up, the game was delayed due to the officials been late. Sheldon in the blue strip looked awful warming up , while St Thomas’ routine was to stand still in a circle. Finally at 10.40. the officials turned up and there was a minutes silence for something I do not know.
I expected this game to be all Sheldon, and it truly was. St Thomas have a very young side, with a lot of what I would say were 17 to 18 year olds, and are currently bottom on just 4 points and a goal difference of -79. Sheldon found St Thomas’ keeper in fine form as he produced several good blocks. Sheldon were unlucky not to go ahead when they produced a downward header that bounced up and was headed off the line by a defender. Pat Lennon made it 1-0 to Sheldon, from a corner the keeper saved a first effort but Lennon headed in the rebound. It stayed that until half time.
In the second half, it was much the same, with all the pressure at the St Thomas end. It was 2-0 , in similar fashion to the first, Horobin pouncing on a rebound after the keeper had saved again. Adam Powell made it 3-0 when he rolled the ball into the far bottom corner from the edge of the area. St Thomas did have a couple of chances but wasted them , shooting over when it was easier to score . Finally it was 4-0 , when the keeper dropped it , the ball was bounced on and finished by Atkins . St Thomas can have no complaints on this defeat.
I decided against doing a second game, instead I went to Worcester and spent the afternoon with my brothers in the pub playing pool.
