Bridgnorth made hard work of beating a poor Pelsall side this afternoon. This was my first visit to Crown Meadow. This of course is the Phoenix club that rose out of the ashes of Bridgnorth Town. Crown Meadow is a ok venue, it didn’t really take my fancy but boasts a decent seated stand and some covered standing behind the goal. Pelsall Villa, have struggled for a few years now, almost folding last year but today they turned up for a friendly today with Bridgnorth.
Bridgnorth in the blue were the far better side , and the final score does not do justice to the real dominance of AFC. Bridgnorth took the lead on 6 minutes, from an own goal. A low cross from the left went close to the keeper , who parried the ball against his own defender and the ball trickled into the bottom corner. Bridgnorth came close again when they smashed the ball off the post. Pelsall managed to hold on until half time, their best player by far was their keeper, despite the lack of kicking power.
On 65 minutes, Bridgnorth doubled their lead when Pelsall’s keeper came out of position , the ball was played across the box for a player to finish into a unguarded net. Pelsall’s keeper then produced a acrobatic save from close range to tip the ball over. From the resulting corner, Bridgnorth headed against the bar . Pelsall’s bench were warned for their conduct after giving the poor referee abuse. The final goal came , when Bridgnorth ran in from the left , took the ball to the by line , sending a fierce ball zipping into the 6 yard box where a player forced the ball in .
