Today is National Non League Day, and I spent it in Worcester. Combining a family members birthday with this game , gave me a chance to visit Neel Park. This game in the Midland League Division 3 , pitted 2nd placed Barton against 15th Perrywood. Perrywood are yet to win this season and have found their opening games tough. Neel Park is a fairly uninspiring venue , sharing with a cricket club at the back of a bowling attraction with a skating park behind.
Barton in the green and white were better from the off and took the lead in the 5th minute , with a 35 yard screamer that left the keep clutching at thin air . On 13 minutes it was 2-0 when the ball was controlled and run into the right side of the box before firing across the keeper into the far corner. Barton then hit the post and the bar as Perrywood clung to life but held it at 2-0 until half time.
The onslaught continued after half time when it became 3-0 , after the Barton player and keeper collided the ball somehow managed to roll into the net. Perrywood’s miserable then was compounded as their defender brought down a Barton player and was duly sent off , Barton despatched the penalty by sending the keeper the wrong way.
A great goal was scored by Barton , when a Perrywood player slipped the player controlled the ball before firing a low zipping ball through a crowded Perrywood penalty area before nestling in the bottom corner. Perrywood then gave themselves some pride with a neat solo effort , shaking off the defender , before hooking the ball over the onrushing keeper. The game was up though when Barton added their sixth and final goal , a cross from the right was met with an attempted header but was missed instead bouncing off the players leg and in. All in all and enjoyable afternoon in the heart of Worcester
