This morning I watched one of the final two games in the West Midland Christian League and a new ground the Wood Green Academy. This game in the 2nd division featured the all Polish side Saint Michael who have had an average season. St Matthews in the red strip have already won the league.
Now I must say, in all the Christian League football I have seen, I have never seen a booking but these two managed 5 yellows and a red card. The ground is basic a simple fenced field well back from the school you wouldn’t know the game was on without exploring.
St Matthews took the lead after an even start on 28 minutes ,Jack Nixon scoring from outside the area. Sukdev Sahota made it 2-0 from the penalty spot going straight down the middle.
It was soon 3-0, Nathan Hathaway bundling the ball into the bottom corner. St Matthews were flying without getting out of bottom gear and soon it was 4-0, Matthew Hissey lobbing a looping effort beyond the keeper. Arguably the best goal came at the end, after a Saint Michael player received a red card, the free kick off the wing was curled in and Sam Brackstone leaped highest to head home.
