When you thought all options were over, I found this final being held at Sutton Town. The Women’s Development League Cup, basicly for the reserve sides. Arsenal have beaten Durham,Manchester City and Liverpool to get here, Sheffield have had a longer way to go beating Notts County,Birmingham, Reading and Sunderland to reach the final.
This game kicked off at 2pm with Arsenal in their gold strip and took the lead on 9 minutes, with a goal that shouldn’t have been allowed, Arsenal blatantly handballed but it was missed by the referee and amazingly the linesman in front of me, Arsenal crossed for Ritchie-Williams to head off the cross bar,the ball dropped and Santoro saved, but Rihanna Dean was their to poke home. Charlie Devlin was a stand out talent for Arsenal
The rest of the half was rubbish in truth, in a game that would of been great for the fans and families but rubbish if your a neutral.
The second half, Saw Sheffield the better side but took until the 86th minute when Chloe Dixon smashed a 20 yard effort in off the post beyond Sian Rodgers forcing extra time. Sheffield went down to 10 when Nicole Kemp kicked the ball away.
Neither side looked able to produce a goal as I became very bored at this stage and wishing I’d gone at 90 minutes when things burst into life, when Devlin of Arsenal and Dixon were shown the red card as Devlin sparked a mass brawl at the corner flag, by tripping a Sheffield player as they got up, it was a shock to see girls acting so ferociously shoving eachother as hard as they could. The game was settled with Sheffield now very stretched the ball was punted up field, and Dean lofted the ball over Santoro to win the Cup in the 118 minute.
