Second placed St Mary’s cantered to a routine against league whipping boys Connect yesterday. My first visit to the Wolverhampton Uni Walsall Campus since August was quite nice in the sun in truth as it threatened to warm up even more.
St Marys in the red, had to wait until the tenth minute to score, a bobble strike from 7 yards bouncing off the keeper. On 14 minutes, it was 2 0 , reminiscent of the old Rory Delap manoeuvre , a throw in was met by a swift header.
On 41 minutes it was 3-0, cutting in from the left and curling a sweet strike inside the near post and on 44 minutes a fourth was added, passing the ball into the box from the left, he sent a low strike into the far bottom corner.
It was much of the same in the second half, but St Mary’s struggled to convert chances although they added their fifth with a low cross along the floor from the right, the ball was swept beyond the out rushing keeper. St Mary’s then had a penalty saved, a very poor daisy cutting effort was easily stopped. The final goal came when Connect’s keeper fumbled the ball and gave it back to the home side who tapped in.
