League leaders Doveridge in the blue took on fourth placed Crown at the neutral Osmaston Polo Ground. A quite decent set up, a open field that houses cricket and football in a very sleepy and tranquil village. We had a pre match drink in the Shoulder of Mutton pub nice pub but the pint was pretty crap.
The game kicked off at 7 and I was unsure of which team was who so asked the lineswoman who told me Doveridge were in orange which was incorrect.
The game turned out to be scrappy but fairly decent. Doveridge took the lead on 31 minutes, rolling the ball into the far corner from 4 yards. Just a minute later, Crown were back in it, a ball pumped into the box plopped off a player into the corner.
Just before the break, Doveridge went ahead , running the left channel and bending a ball into the far side of goal. In the second half they went 3-1 up crossing low from the left byline and the ball got entangled between the attacker and defenders legs and somehow bobbled in.
Crown got themselves back in things, nodding in a cross from the right but it was not to be as Doveridge killed them off with 2 late goals. Firstly, a low shot bounced off the keepers foot before trickling in before adding a late effort.
