Game 26 – Selly Oak Methodist 4 Connect Sports 1 16/9/2017

Connect will scratch their heads on how they lost this game against a poor Selly Oak side. I was happy to do a game as i have been quite poorly the last 2 weeks with severe sciatica that has been driving me round the bend .This morning I decided to visit the South Birmingham suburb of Bournville to see Top of the Christian League 2 Selly Oak who play at the Rowheath Pavillion which is essentially a playing field but not a bad one at all. The visitors today were recently relegated Connect who I watched lose 9 1 last week.

Selly Oak had won their opening 2 games and started with a 17-1 win so I thought goals would be on the cards. On the other pitch Moneyhull were entertaining Charlemont Star and as I passed I saw Charlemont take the lead. Sadly, the game I saw wasn’t the goalfest I had hoped.

Connect in the green strip, completely destroyed a very poor and abject Selly Oak side in the first half but with respect to Connect they are hopeless finishers and wasted their 20 or so opportunities time after time , they were also given a hand when Selly Oak went down to 10 men , their number 8 sent off for bad language.

HT  Selly Oak … 0  Connect Sports …0

As they say, if you don’t take your chances you will be punished as Connect collapsed when a shockingly poor penalty was given by beleaguered referee. Soon it was 2-0 , taking the ball around the keeper and tapping home as Connect couldn’t believe what was happening. It was 3-0 after with a bullet header from a corner.

Connect got a goal from a substitute with a chip across goal but they were done again by hopeless keeping , a tame effort was fumbled into the net by Connects keeper. All in all Connect really need to put chances away as they have a massive losing mentality and will winder how they lost this game.  Selly Oak really surprised me at how poor they were but obviously they will be delighted they won.
