Game 44 – Ilkeston Town 6 Paget Rangers 0 4/11/2017

A second half demolition job by Ilkeston saw them comfortably win this afternoon. I was invited by Paget to join them on the coach and as I have never done the New Manor Ground.

I liked the ground, cover on 3 sides with 2 stands on the one side and terracing at the top end. Ilkeston have had their own troubles dropping down a few leagues due to near bankruptcy but the more quality squad is still in place. Before the game it was 4th (Ilkeston) v 11th in the Midland League One.

Before the game, Pagets chairman Matthew Dainty told me “I hope we dont get battered”. Paget came to defend and could did so resolutely for most of the first half and could of had a couple themselves but found themselves up against a beast of a keeper. The pressure was to much and conceded on 42 minutes, after giving away a free kick, Jamie Walker hit a low shot that squirmed in.

The second half Ilkeston were more ruthless and a second on 51 minutes, a cross from the right headed in by Alex Marshall. It was 3-0 on 72 minutes, after Rangers failed to clear, some head tennis ensued before Wheated hit a stinging g volley.

Rangers were theit own worse enemy giving away a penalty on 75 minutes, Walker putting it in the right corner. On 88 minutes, Ben Fairclough made an impact before being subbed after being knocked through he finished at a tight angle. There was time for one more though when Walker grabbed his hattrick , a low pass was hit towards the 6 yard box and Walker stuck his leg out to take the ball in.
