Spartak belied their lowly position to put in a fine performance this afternoon. After spending the night at my moms in Worcester, this was a handy fixture on the way home. It’s been 3 or 4 years since my last visit here and little has changed.
The ground is in the quaint rural setting of Fairfield that borders Bromsgrove and Stourbridge and minutes from the M5. I think the only major change was a playground built at the side of the pitch. This was 12th v 15th (Spartak) in Midland League 2.
I also seem to remember that Villa used to play in yellow, now they play in red. Spartak started very brightly and took the lead on 13 minutes, cutting in from the left hitting a shot that was saved but Joe Sims stuffed in the rebound. On 23 minutes, Spartak were in Wonderland following a corner the ball sat up nicely and Mark Steele hit a top quality in the air volley from 6 yards.
Spartak fell asleep though just before half time as Villa hit a low shot into the bottom corner. On the stroke of half time, it was 2 2 skipping a challenge, taking the ball around the keeper and rolling home. At half time I had a look at the fine view from the ground.
Spartak scored another good goal just after half time, Wes Corry curling in a great strike from 18 yards. The final goal came from the penalty spot after a Villa defender slid and handballed and Tory Herbert got a deserved goal putting it into the bottom right corner.
All in all a good game to round off before Christmas but I think in the New year I have to keep cracking on new venue’s. As always it’s all about time and money but I have still done under 200 grounds and for the amount of games I do should be considerably higher.
