St Mary’s beat Baptist in a fraught affair this morning. The battle of 3rd vs 4th in the West Midlands Christian League was held at the Walsall Campus of Wolves Uni. I headed to Charlemont but found the game off so headed here instead.
The weather was sunny but with a biting wind that made conditions difficult at times. St Marys in the red took the lead on the half hour mark through a scruffy back heel that somehow found its way into the bottom corner.
They doubled their lead on 40 minutes, making space on the left corner of the box and squeezing a zipping low shot into the far bottom corner.
Baptist got back into the game in very fortuitous circumstances, a cross from the right was spilled by the flailing keeper leaving Baptist an easy tap in. The rest of the game was mainly St Marys spooning any chance they had except for Baptist having an appeal for handball in the box waved away that was about it.
