After coming out of hospital last night, following my shoulder op I thought I’d take in a game and as I can’t drive it was a wander to Aldridge Rd Rec to see this cup game. Third in the Festival premier Continental were the visitors and their hosts were from two leagues below. Last time I saw Panther they were a new side and beat a poor KGB side 10-0. They are now strugglers and were up against it from the off turning up with 10 men.
I made it before kick off with my arm in a sling and got talking to Continentals number 20, who said United only had 10 men and I said you should have them easy to which he said remember Man City v Wigan. That was not the case though, as although Continental were always on top, Panther in the white, put in a solid performance with just 10 men.
Star were lucky to take the lead on 10 minutes, hitting a daisy cutter that United’s keeper completely missed like he wasn’t there. On 13 minutes it was 2 0 rounding the keeper and tucking the ball in.
On 22 minutes, it was 3-0 shooting low from the left. United got a goal with their first effort, a ball over the top and a lob over the keeper. The second half seemed to start flat but then Star went 4-1 up, poking in a pass from the right. It was 5-1, shooting into the far bottom corner.
It got worse for Panther as they lost a player to injury and went 6-1 down, from the penalty spot. Stars best goal came, when they skilled out the defence and smashed a shot on the turn. The final goal came when no United defenders got back except one who blocked a first effort but then the loose ball was lashed in from the right of the box.
