A game truly of two halves saw Coven knock Cannock out of the cup. I didn’t want to go to far and seeing this game was on 25 minutes from home, I headed here.
I have not seen to much of the Staffs league, a couple of games here and there but when I gave the teams seem of decent quality. This game was a Division 2 cup game between Cannock and Coven. Coven have had a decent start to the season while Cannock have drawn a couple.
The game took place at a new Venue for me , Norton Canes community Centre. A simple pitch behind the centre with some mesh fencing and some temporary material dugouts. Sadly the game was played mostly in driving rain and I got fairly soaked.
The first half was fairly even and Cannock in the sky blue took the lead on 40 minutes, from a free kick that was thumped into the top right corner from 25 yards. On the stroke of half time, it was 2-0 cutting in from the left and rolling the ball into the far bottom corner.
That was as good as it got for Cannock as Coven came out determined. They made it 2-1 bundling in from a goalmouth scramble. The equaliser was probably their best goal receiving the ball on the edge of the right side box, sidestepping the defender curling a lovely shot beyond the keeper. United applied a little pressure but a corner was awarded after the keeper saved with his nose, the resulting corner was nodded in by a leaping Coven player.
