Basement side Wanderers held their own against lacklustre Lutterworth tonight. With a few days off work, this seemed the ideal opportunity to cross this one off and complete Lutterworth after doing Lutterworth Town in August. It wasn’t easy going though, bad delays on the M6 due to a accident and them a broken down lorry caused me to be 15 minutes late.
The ground Hall Park, is now known as the Smallman and son Arena. It’s a decent facility with a rail going round the sides of the pitch and a stand on the one side, there is a bar outside the ground. This game in the United Counties Division one saw Athletic (7th) in the green and white, take on bottom Burton Park .
The pitch was extremely bobbly and made life hard for both sides. I was disappointed with Athletic though despite having technical promise they were woeful. Burton Park were by far the better side on the night and had a early effort blocked on the line.
In the second half, Athletic had a chance, but it was blocked by the keepers legs. Burton had a free kick turned acrobatic over the bar, they then hit the bar and missed a sitter. Their final attempts were a hard driven angled shot that was saved before blazing over at the end but it wasn’t to be and I got another dreaded 0-0 and my third draw in a row. I also hit traffic on the way back getting stuck by roadworks on the way back for 30 minutes by the fort in Birmingham. Another gripe, why don’t they warn you about upcoming delays, roadworks etc, there and back.. nothing go past junction and whack your in it.
