Sutton beat a youthful Cheltenham side in their opening friendly last night. Sutton are back under the management of Neil Tooth after his short tenure of Hednesford Town and welcomed the league two outfit who sent a side mainly 18 year olds.
There were not many here, I counted about 90. Sutton in the blue, were dominant from the off and hit the post early on when it was easier to score. The opening goal came on 33 minutes, cutting in from the right to chip over the keeper and Ryan Shaw was on hand to nod in on the line. A few minutes into the second half it was 2-0, when Louis Monaghan had a one one one and bent the ball around the keeper from 18 yards . Cheltenham added a late consolation but it was not to be.
