Rampant Imps end Rushall’s dreams
Last night I was back at Rushall again in a bid to restart my stuttering season. On a wet and drizzly Wednesday night, Rushall’s youth side were playing their biggest game to date as for the first time in their history they had reached the first round of the FA Youth Cup. They had big opposition in their way , League side Lincolns youth set up.
Dales Lane was very busy and mainly filled with teeny boppers aged around 15, and some with very low maturity. It was a decent game, but the gulf in class was evident with Rushall camped in their own half for most of the game. Lincoln took the lead on 27 minutes , a move off the right came into the box, the loose ball found a player who finished beyond Alex Graham. It was 2-0 on 43 minutes , when a back header let in the unmarked number 11 to finish from a angle. There was then a long delay as a Rushall player was stretchered off with a injured knee.
The second half, was much of the same and Lincoln added a third on around 60 minutes, with a low drive that Rushall nearly kept out on the line, Lincoln added a late goal to kill Rushall’s dreams and now Wrexham await Lincoln in the next round. Rushall can be proud of their achievements and who knows next year could be their year.
