My first new ground since October saw me heading the 40 mile drive away in Leicestershire. I intended to do this one a few weeks ago with their first team but was called off.
Desford have been suffering of late their first team are rock bottom of the premier league and the seconds are no different. The development side are bottom of the Division two with a minus 3 points difference so worse than winless, they have however won a game have been docked 6 points for something unknown. Newbold were 6th.
The club informed me it was on so off I headed. Desford play at the Sports In Desford, a sort of sports hub , that is just over road from the Caterpillar digger plant. It hosts the pitch, small five a side pitch and tennis courts from what I saw. The ground is very basic, railed on 3 sides.
Desford in the blue controlled the game although Newbold didn’t give up and continued admirably. I arrived a few minutes late to find Desford we 1 0 up apparently a tap in bottom corner . On 14 minutes it was 2-0 heading home from a corner.
On 26 minutes, Newbold got the goal of the game, Dan Agar thumping a 30 yard drive off the right wing into the far top corner. In the second half, Desford were awarded a penalty that was despatched before making it four,
tackling the defender, then the loose ball came to the keeper, he was then tackled for the loose ball to be rolled home for a fine individual goal. The final goal came when the ball was slotted into the bottom corner. A further goal was added at the end.
