Game 52- Sporting Club Albion LFC 0 Leicester City Women 2 27/11/2011

This was my first ever game watching womens football apart from what i had seen on tele i didnt really know what to expect. I thought about watching Villa womens game but in the end i opted for this fixture played at Halesowen Town FC. Last time i visited this ground i think it was Halesowen 4 Malvern 0 in the cup in 2007 so it had been a while since i visited Old Hawne Lane.

I arrived at 1.45 , the wind was biting , wooly hat was on and off i went.I arrived at the gate and the man said “im afraid its £3” and apologised for it . i don’t know why i was going to pay it without arguing but he seemed a nice chap. This was 1st (Albion) v 3rd (Leic) so i was expecting Albion to give us a show.. how wrong i was.

Closing Down

Albion really struggled against a far superior and more organised City side on the day and scored a goal in both halves. As i said i don’t know much about the womens game but it did seem a rather poor standard.. the keepers inability to kick the ball further than 20 yards.. the plodding.. the inabity to put in decent crosses and woeful shooting. Maybe ii’m being harsh maybe it was just a off day for them but it wasn’t pretty.

City although they to had the above faults looked pretty good still and relentlessly attacked the SCA goal and there opening goal came from a free kick which was spilled the the keeper and the rebound was tucked away. City hit the bar not long after and kept plugging away. It was 2-0 into the second half again a free kick was whipped in off the wing and the ball was bundled home, i can’t be sure but i heard a leicester fan say it was a own goal. City saw out the remaining minutes with ease and even had a third chalked of for a handball before she finished.
